Anecdotes about perfusion in the 21st century

We invite all perfusionists to make contributions to this section of our web page. You can write about whatever you want; an interesting case, your views on controversial subjects, a toast or roast, or an editorial on the state of perfusion in the 21st century. Give it a catchy title and send your masterpiece to the webmaster for editing (no bad words or personal attacks, please) and we’ll keep it posted for all to read for a year.

Join The Perfusionist MULE Train!

I’ve always felt that some of the best learning experiences I have had is when I have visited other perfusion programs. No amount of articles, pamphlets, sales pitches, or lectures can compare to the observation of real life experiences with those people who actually perform cases. There are always interesting aspects of each program’s practice that may enhance other programs, whether it involves equipment, techniques, or business operations (call scheduling, capturing charges, etc.). I thought it might be educational to amass a group of practices together that may be interested in exchanging Perfusionists for a day, to learn from each other what things one may do to provide better patient care, and also reinforce those practices that they are doing well. I have labeled the perfusionist exchange program the Missouri Unified Learning Expedition and Training, or MULE Train for short.

If you are interested in participating, please send me your hospital/business name and address, the contact person for that group, phone number, and e-mail address. I will compile these groups and send them out to those others interested, and you may contact whichever group you desire to set up an exchange. Please send information to Pete Woods at pwoods@saint-lukes.org. I am willing to hear any input from colleagues to improve this program as well. Feel free to share your thoughts.
